Invisalign FAQ

When you’re looking for high-quality orthodontic treatments, such as braces or Invisalign in Rockwall/Rowlett, TX, Formby Orthodontics is proud to be your choice. As your trusted Rockwall/Rowlett orthodontist, we understand that undergoing orthodontic treatment for the first time can be a nerve-wracking experience, so we make it a priority to offer a stress-free office environment and always keep our patients well-informed of their orthodontic situation. As Invisalign is a newer orthodontic treatment, known as the alternative to braces, we’d like to help you learn a little more about the treatment and its process through this listing of frequently asked questions.

How Often Do I Have to Wear My Aligners?

You’ll need to wear your aligners for about 22 hours a day. Aligners can be removed for eating, brushing, or any special occasions.

Will I Feel Any Discomfort with the Invisalign Treatment?

After each initial insertion, there may be some minor pressure or discomfort. This isn’t anything to worry about though and it’s just a sign that your teeth are moving toward their intended position.

How Long Will the Invisalign Treatment Take?

Treatment time will vary depending on the patient; the more severe the case, the longer the treatment will take. Treatment time with Invisalign will usually be shorter than with braces and will typically last between six and 18 months.

Are There Any Restrictions on What I Can Eat During Treatment?

Unlike braces, you can eat whatever you desire as long as you take out the aligners beforehand. Before putting the aligners back in, it’s important to brush your teeth and your aligners.

How Do I Keep My Aligners Clean?

iStock-170112245You’ll want to brush them with toothpaste and rinse them with lukewarm water.

Will Wearing the Aligners Affect My Speech?

Just like any other orthodontic treatment, there will be a short adjustment period. However, the more you speak with them, the quicker you’ll adjust.

Can I Smoke with the Aligners In?

We discourage it since the cigarette smoke can discolor the aligners.

How Often Do I Have to See an Orthodontist During Treatment?

You’ll need to come in to see your Rockwall/Rowlett orthodontist once every five to six weeks. This is to ensure that your treatment is progressing as smoothly as possible.

Will I Need Retainers After My Treatment Is Complete?

All orthodontic patients are instructed to wear their retainers at night for an indefinite period of time. This retainer usage will ensure that you maintain a healthy bite and that your teeth don’t shift back into misalignment.

Does Invisalign Work for Kids?

Yes. It works as long as their teeth, including their second molars, have completely grown in.
